Burley

We have two recognized varieties in the burley type group : Pallagi 5, Pallagi 7 and Pallagi 12. These varieties have good PVY resistance and they produce accepted industrial quality.

Before state recognition of new variety, the variety candidates are entered into a large scale field trials after breeding trials. The decision about the variety recognition is made on the basis of their (grower and industrial) performance in the field trials. At present Pj 14 burley variety candidate is included in field trial. That variety candidate has the same diesaese resistance as our currently recognized burley varieties have. Beside good yield potential, it has high smoking quality required by the industry.

PALLAGI 5

This F1 hybrid is tall with large leaves and the edges curving down. The number of harvestable leaves is 22-24. Growth rate is good both in the seedbed and in the field. The ripening rate is medium-late. This variety has high level of resistance to potato virus Y, tobacco mosaic virus and black root rot. It has medium level of resistance to brown spot and blue-mold. Yield potential is high (3000-3200 kg/ha). If properly cured it produces good leaf tissue quality with good colour. The chemical and smoking quality is good.

PALLAGI 12

This is a tall F1 hibrid with high yield. The number of harvestable leaves is 22-24. Its resistance to potato virus Y is high. The growth rate is very dinamic in the seedbed and in the field. Yield potential and yield stability is high (3100-3300 kg/ha). The ripening rate is medium-late. If properly cured it produces leaves with good colour and leaf tissue and smoking quality.The state recognition process of the variety has been finished in 2014.
