Agroport-D Kft. has been producing tobacco seed under vector net for more than two decades. This technology ensures the isolation of the varieties, the protection of plants from pests and provides the possibility of the application of intensive production technology with increased professional supervision.

The technology continuously has to be improved and adapted to the changing conditions, which promotes the growers’ supply with high quality seed.

Extreme weather conditions, storms, hail occured more and more frequently in the last few years. In order to prevent their damages and to increase the safety of the seed production antihail net protection was applied for all of our seed producing vector tents this year.

We applied antihail net with medium weave dimensions, woven from high density and tensile strength polyethylene fibers, which is generally used for protection in horticultural field crops and orchards. There are only a few practical examples for using it in closed growing systems.

After sewing for a proper size, the antihail net was directly stretched over the vector net and it was fixed with special plastic clips all around the tent.

The first year experience was positive in every respect, beside the protection of plants, the antihail net prevented the vector net damages as well.  That’s why this element will be a part of the seed production technology from the coming year.

We produced tobacco seed in 4 tents covered with vector net in Gáspar György kert, Debrecen this year. The cleaning, processing and pelleting is in progress.
